| Why I RideManny got his first bike as a 12 year old kid in Costa Rica. He loved it because it kept him away from the bad influences that surrounded him in his neighborhood. At age 15 he began competing in Freestyle BMX, and after a couple of years he became the Costa Rican National Champion in 1997, 1998 and 1999. "I then set my sights on moving to the USA and competing at the highest level of Freestyle BMX." Competing at the X Games became one of Manny's fondest memories on the bike. Upon settling in Lake Forest in 2004, he began mountain biking and entered a local race in Fontana. "I immediately became addicted to mountain biking and the next year I entered over 30 races." After many local races, Manny returned to Costa Rica to compete in one of the toughest races in the world. "Finishing in the top 20 at La Ruta has been one of my biggest accomplishments thus far." Manny very often trains alone on the mountain bike. He loves riding Trabuco, San Juan, and Tunnels in Santa Barbara while jamming to rock music. His favorite recovery foods are baked potatoes, ice cream shakes, and McDonald's french fries but he tries to resist sodas. His motivation is Jesus Christ, his wife, family, and friends. Manny always prays before his rides. He has a profound interest in the community and likes helping others get into riding. "I've been able to help my Flatland BMX friends in Costa Rica by putting on The Ticos Jam' contest with the support of my BMX sponsors Odyssey BMX and Diversion Video Magazine." Manny believes that lots of team work, efficient training, and a little talent are the ingredients to a successful team.
