 Why I Ride

Ty Kady is from Brea, CA where he lives with his wife of 10 years. Prior to racing cross country, Ty was a former A.M.A 250cc privateer and campaigned selected rounds of the Supercross and Outdoor Motocross Series from 1994-2001. He had the opportunity to race against the world's best riders including Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Doug Henry, and Jeff Emig among others. In retrospect, Ty is proud of his motocross career. "When I was younger and just after I stopped racing in 2001, I was full of disappointment that I never broke into that super "Elite" group of guys like Ricky or Jeremy, but that is why they are the two best riders the sport has ever seen!. Now that I'm older, I appreciate the fact that I was able to blast off against the top 40 guys in the world. I got to travel the country and race in some of the greatest stadiums around the globe! I'm also proud that I rode for some of the industry's best sponsors and created life long relationship with some of them."

"As for cycling it all started as a way to regain some fitness I lost sitting around home on the weekends, drinking beer and eating bad. Then by a stroke of luck I ran into one of the all time great Motocross riders out at a road race, that guy was Johnny O'Mara. From there we stayed in touch and would cross paths from time to time. Then in 2003 Johnny saw some potential in me and took me under his wing. He gave me his insight from his days as a former factory Yeti rider and my learning curve was greatly accelerated from there! Now fast forward five years and Johnny is Sho-Air's team Captain and were riding on the same team unbelievable!"

Ty's accomplishments on the bicycle have been almost equally impressive as his motocross resume. He has won the Sea Otter Classic twice, and has never finished worse than second in his other attempts. He is the record holder in the Warrior's Society "Counting Coup Epic" winning the 42 mile events three times. He also won this year's NMBS cross country round out at Fontana, the California State Series Round at Ellings Park as well as ending up Ranked #2 by USA Cycling in the Semi Pro XC rankings.
